I'm starting to think that no one knows for sure and all the money just goes into one big pot marked 'Government Revenue' and is dished out according to whatever policies are in favour.

This map doesn't help either;
http://www.iea.org/subsidy/index.html

The only thing I know for sure is that world wide about half a trillion dollars was used to subsides fossil fuels;
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/04/us-iea-idUSTRE7931CF20111004

Imagine if that was used in researching alternatives or even just installing wind turbines, PV etc!Lazarushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14139033650731770470noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5345056790932494587.post-82886706098058019732011-10-23T14:32:26.646+01:002011-10-23T14:32:26.646+01:00Hi Lazarus,

A search of the PDF document gives no instances of 'subsidies'.

However feel free to look yourself to see if you can find info I've missed.

This looks more promising;
http://www.globalsubsidies.org/research/fossil-fuel-subsidies
Check out 'Kinds of subsidies...'
I've had a quick check, can't find anything about the UK, but it may help.

One final thing;
http://www.bis.gov.uk/search?keywords=fossil+fuel+subsidies&type=all

Sorry I can't spare the time to help you further, but as you can probably appreciate my own blog's subject matter takes a lot of time.

ChrisChris Rhttp://dosbat.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.com
